The Fishers Police Training Unit develops relevant, realistic training programs for Officers of the department and surrounding areas to achieve the highest public safety performance standards and serve as a best practice in the policing profession.  

In this commitment, we utilize a progression-based training and education model incorporating initial, sustainment, and advancement training events to ensure Officer proficiencies exceed community expectations.

This model ensures Fishers Police Officers are empowered to act, innovative in their problem-solving, and adaptive to change. 

To achieve this, Officers with the Fishers Police Department conduct both in-service training courses and top-tier education programs to ensure our operational practices are consistent with national standards. In addition to a demanding in-service training curriculum, the Training Unit regularly hosts trainings at the Fishers Police Department to attract leading instructors from across the country. 

Every year, the average Fishers Police Officer conducts more than four times the State’s training standard and many Officers are considered subject matter experts in a variety of disciplines.  

Over the last five years, the Fishers Police Department Training Unit conducted several full-scale exercises integrating all public safety disciplines including law enforcement, fire, emergency medical services, and emergency management. These exercises – planned in compliance with the Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program (HSEEP) – remain the largest training events in Central Indiana.  

The results of our training program are highly trained Officers, exhibiting the highest level of professionalism, and a key factor leading to Fishers becoming one of the safest cities in America.
