Fishers Police Department Citizens Academy

The academy is an opportunity for the community to participate in police-style training through a 14-week course. Community members learn first-hand how the Fishers Police Department works.

Training topics include criminal law, crime prevention, the K-9 program, defensive tactics, and narcotics training. The academy includes demonstrations and training as well as classroom instruction.

The 44th session of the Fishers Police Department Citizens Police Academy is now accepting applications. The Citizens Police Academy will be held Wednesday nights from 6:30-9:00 p.m. at the Fishers Police Department. This session will begin on Wednesday, August 12 and graduation will take place on Wednesday, November 4, 2026. The Citizens Police Academy is open to people living or working in Fishers, Indiana. You must be 16 or older to apply and the class size is limited.

The purpose of the academy is to provide participants with an opportunity to better understand the role of police officers and, more importantly, build relationships between the officers and the community. Officers and police personnel will provide an overview of their roles and responsibilities and insight into some of the specialized units within FPD. Topics will include recruiting and hiring, traffic stops, how the K-9 Unit works within the agency, the role of the Fishers Dive Team, the role of the Emergency Response Team, how Crime Scene Investigators process scenes, and much more. Attendees will have some classroom instruction and practical role play training.

Each applicant is subject to a background check; advanced registration is required.  Walk-ins will not be accepted. Complete the application at this link,
