Fishers Police Department Citizens Academy

The academy is an opportunity for the community to participate in police-style training through a 14-week course. Community members learn first-hand how the Fishers Police Department works.

Training topics include criminal law, crime prevention, the K-9 program, defensive tactics, and narcotics training. The academy includes demonstrations and training as well as classroom instruction.

Once your pre-registration is received, officers will conduct background checks. Upon acceptance to the academy, you will receive an email from FISHERS, IN with final registration information. Final registration is done through the City’s Viewpoint system.  If you have not used Viewpoint in the past, you will need to create an account. Contact Gerry Hepp for more information.

Registration for the 42nd session of the Fishers Police Department Citizens Academy is now closed.  Please consider attending the Fall session in 2025.  Please contact Gerry Hepp with any questions, heppg@fishers.in.us or 317-595-3316.

Fishers Police Department Cadet Program

The Fishers Police Department Cadet Program is for Fishers residents between the ages of 14 (or currently enrolled in the eighth grade) and 19 (or currently enrolled as a senior in high school) who are interested in a possible law enforcement career. Cadets receive classroom lessons and participate in hands-on training activities which are led by members of the police department to provide Cadets with the skills and qualifications needed in the law enforcement field. In addition, Cadets will receive training in areas such as radio communications, patrol tactics, and crowd control. The Fishers Police Cadets meet two Tuesdays a month during the school year with additional volunteer and ride-along opportunities throughout the year. Cadets must attend 70% of required activities to be eligible for range day, field day, and volunteer opportunities. There is a $100 fee for the Cadet Program.

Registration for the Cadet Program is closed and will reopen in the Fall of 2025
