Investigations Division

The Investigations Division consists of Criminal Investigations, the Intelligence Unit, and the Forensic Services Unit. The primary function of the Investigations Division is to provide investigative and specialized services to the City of Fishers.

Criminal Investigations

The Criminal Investigations unit, led by a lieutenant, two sergeants and staffed by seven skilled detectives, specializes in probing intricate criminal cases and incidents. Each detective is extensively trained in advanced investigative methods, effective interviewing, and case management to deliver exceptional services to the community.

Intelligence Unit

The Intelligence Unit is staffed with a lieutenant and three intelligence analysts. The Intelligence Unit gathers, collates, analyzes, and disseminates information for all divisions of the agency as well as other law enforcement partners. The unit provides tactical and strategic intelligence on the existence, identities, and capabilities of criminal suspects or groups as well as crime trends and threat assessments for the City of Fishers.

Forensic Services Unit

The Forensic Services Unit (FSU) reports to the FSU lieutenant and consists of a sergeant, detectives, criminal forensic investigators, and a property room manager. The FSU is responsible for crime scene investigations, cutting-edge evidence processing, rapid DNA testing, drone deployments, digital fingerprint enhancement, 3D crime scene reconstruction, and managing the property room. The FSU also provides digital forensics services that provide advanced processing of cell phones, computers, and other electronic devices. The FSU provides supervision and training for shift evidence technicians who are assigned to the Patrol Division. Special Investigations Unit

The Fishers Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit is responsible for investigating different crimes and working in partnership with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies. The Investigations Division is comprised of several highly proactive units, which support the Patrol Division in our pursuit of a safer community. Officers working in these units are specially trained in the following areas:

  • Tactical responses to critical incidents
  • Overt and covert gang and narcotics investigations
  • Large, preplanned demonstrations and events
  • Dignitary protection
  • Direct support in the apprehension of career criminals and violent offenders
  • Investigation of Internet crimes and electronic exploitation of children
  • Critical incident and stress management
  • Weapons management

All assignments under the Special Investigations Unit are considered unique and fall outside the realm of normal patrol duties. Each requires a high degree of team camaraderie and discipline. All officers working in the Special Investigations Unit receive specialized training and develop a high level of proficiency and expertise for their particular assignment.
